2010 Regional "Hot Topic" Luncheon

'Downtown Business Retention & Recruitment'

This program will focus on business retention and recruitment for a downtown environment.  Our speaker, Eddie Bumbaugh, is the Executive Director for Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance and has worked to create an environment where businesses are nurtured, develop and thrive.  Mr. Bumbaugh will address key incentives that are instrumental to generating a strong business climate, how a downtown can serve as an entrepreneurial incubator, some tried and true business recruitment techniques and business retention strategies.

Learning Objectives:
(a) Identify critical groundwork steps that create an environment for retaining and recruiting downtown businesses.
(b)  Identify strategies and resources to retain and strengthen existing downtown businesses.
(c) Learn helpful incentives and techniques to recruit new downtown businesses.
(d) Develop partnerships which share responsibilities and promote retention and recruitment objectives.

Speaker Bio:
Eddie Bumbaugh has been the executive director of Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance since its formation in July, 2003.  HDR is a private non-profit organization and is a designated community with the Virginia Main Street program.  Eddie’s prior work history includes serving as the assistant director of the Community Mediation Center, and for many years he was involved in a family owned downtown business.  His undergraduate degree is from James Madison University, and he has a master’s degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University.
